We founded SmithStrong Circles because we live this mission every day. As healthcare professionals and martial artists with more than 20 years of combined experience, and as parents raising three autistic children, we know the challenges families face: the meltdowns, the isolation, and the heartbreak of watching children feel left out.
Our journey taught us that strength is not found in conformity, but in connection. Martial arts gave us the discipline, patience, and adaptive communication skills to meet children where they are. Our professional training as a Physician Assistant (Tonya) and Licensed Vocational Nurse (Lakisha) gave us the tools to build safe, inclusive, and supportive spaces.
SmithStrong Circles is more than a program—it’s a movement. We believe every child deserves the chance to participate in enriching activities like gymnastics, swimming, or jiu-jitsu, and to build friendships that last. We are committed to breaking barriers, rewriting norms, and showing that when circles come together, they create lasting strength.
